Oversees day-to-day delivery of clinical services, including Cath Lab activity, outpatient clinics, and administrative functions.
Performance Tracking:
Manages and analyzes data to ensure the service meets key performance indicators (KPIs) such as 18-week Referral to Treatment (RTT) and diagnostic waiting times.
Financial Oversight:
Administers departmental budgets, contributes to cost improvement programs (CIPs), and ensures efficient resource allocation.
Workforce Leadership:
Provides line management for administrative and clerical staff, reviews junior doctor rotas, and supports staff development and performance reviews.
Governance & Risk:
Investigates patient complaints (PALS), manages incident reporting (DATIX), and ensures compliance with clinical governance and health and safety regulations.
Service Improvement:
Leads modernization projects, develops new operational policies, and implements service redesigns to enhance patient experience.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
Significant experience in a senior leadership or operational management role, typically within a complex healthcare or NHS setting.
Leadership:
Proven ability to manage teams through change and act as a credible leader across different staff groups (clinical and non-clinical).
Analytical Skills:
High level of numerical and data analytical proficiency to handle complex spreadsheets and performance reports.
Education:
Usually requires a degree or equivalent professional management qualification; clinical backgrounds (like a Registered Nurse or Cardiac Physiologist) are often required for more clinical-leaning "Deputy Ward Manager" or "Deputy Cardiac Physiology Manager" roles.
