The Deputy Editorial Manager, Books Editorial - Advanced Learning, will report to and work closely with the Editorial Manager, leading a team of 50+ Editorial Assistants (EAs) based in India, ensuring that various Taylor and Francis books lists and commissioning editors are adequately supported to achieve agreed revenue and profitability targets. As the line manager for Senior Editorial Assistants based in India, and working closely with T&F editorial staff across global offices, the person will support in directing and coordinating various aspects of the team\'s functioning such as staffing, training, KRAs, performance management, communications and professional development.

What you will be doing:

Support and guide Senior Editorial Assistants, providing effective training, enabling them to always do their best work, providing clear and constructive feedback, and encouraging development of skills relevant to their work.

Plan and manage well-timed recruitment of new members of staff.

Report accurate performance metrics to key internal stakeholders, highlighting revenue risks and opportunities

Facilitate appraisals on an ongoing basis and create progress plans

Regularly monitor and review progress of their direct reports and their respective teams, to ensure annual KPIs are met and facilitate reallocation of work if needed.

Participate in the development of strategic plans, goals, and objectives of the team ensuring alignment with those of the department, and the organization.

Collaborate and engage colleagues in multifunctional business initiatives to ensure successful delivery

Ensure that processes are set up to maintain communication between the India and global offices.

Identify and agree common learning needs across the department and provide appropriate support to enable these needs to be met.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • An understanding of the academic publishing industry, and familiarity with the academic book publishing process.
  • Experience in hiring, training and managing editorial/editorial services teams.
  • Proven ability to network and experienced in working in a global, matrix-led environment, liaising effectively with colleagues globally.
  • Planning, delivering and reporting on business activities, against agreed KPIs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to create engagement, build rapport and create positive impact.
  • Established project management skills and drive towards continuous improvement.
  • An understanding of technologies, trends and developments in the industry.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to manage from strategic development to detailed execution.
  • Dedication to continuous learning and self-development.
