The Degree English Teacher will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging and rigorous English language and literature courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of the field, a commitment to high-quality teaching, and a track record of scholarly or professional activity. This role requires exceptional communication, pedagogical, and administrative skills.
II. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Teaching and Course Management
Instruction:
Deliver lectures, seminars, and tutorials for a variety of English courses, which may include Academic Writing, Critical Thinking, Literature Surveys, Advanced Grammar, Professional Communication, or specialized literary periods/genres.
Curriculum Development:
Design, update, and review course materials, syllabi, and teaching methodologies to ensure they meet institutional standards and current academic trends.
Assessment:
Create, administer, and grade tests, essays, projects, and presentations; provide timely and constructive feedback to students to promote learning and skill development.
Classroom Environment:
Maintain a professional and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and respectful dialogue.
B. Academic and Administrative Duties
Student Support:
Mentor and advise students on academic performance, course selection, and career pathways related to English studies.
Departmental Service:
Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, faculty committees, and institutional events.
Administrative Tasks:
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress, submitting reports as required by the administration.
C. Professional Development and Scholarship
Research/Scholarship:
Engage in ongoing professional development, research, and scholarly activity within the field of English, which may include publishing, conference presentations, or grant writing (especially for Lecturer/Professor-track roles).
Staying Current:
Remain current with best practices in English language teaching (ELT), educational technology, and developments in literature/linguistics.
III. Required QualificationsCategoryRequirementEducationMaster of Arts (MA) degree
in English, Literature, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. (A Ph.D. is a significant advantage).
Experience
Minimum of
2-3 years of proven experience
teaching English at the university, college, or adult higher education level.
Knowledge
Strong expertise in academic writing conventions, critical analysis, and the core components of literature or linguistics.
Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) (e.g., Moodle, Canvas) and instructional technologies.
