Summary:
The Dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and administrative oversight to advance the school\xe2\x80\x99s academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement. The Dean will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to ensure the school\xe2\x80\x99s growth and excellence in the fields of journalism and mass communication.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Administration:
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Oversee academic programs, ensuring high standards of quality, innovation, and relevance.
Manage the school\xe2\x80\x99s budget, resources, and operations efficiently and effectively.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture among faculty, staff, and students.
2. Academic and Research Excellence:
Promote excellence in teaching, research, and creative activities within the school.
Support faculty development and encourage scholarly and professional growth.
Enhance the school\xe2\x80\x99s research profile through grants, partnerships, and publications.
Ensure curriculum relevance by integrating emerging trends and technologies in journalism and mass communication.
3. Student Success:
Advocate for student needs and support initiatives that enhance student learning and success.
Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain, and graduate a diverse student body.
Promote experiential learning opportunities, including internships, practicums, and industry collaborations.
4. Community and Industry Engagement:
Strengthen relationships with industry partners, alumni, and other external stakeholders.
Facilitate partnerships that provide students with real-world experiences and career opportunities.
Represent the school in professional organizations and at public events to enhance its visibility and reputation.
Qualifications:
A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.
A distinguished record of scholarly achievement and professional experience in journalism or mass communication.
Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or professional setting.
Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and personnel effectively.
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
