Supervise the operation and monitoring of the DCS systems that control the continuous polymerization process.
Ensure real-time control of key process variables (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow rates, chemical feedstock) to maintain optimal polymerization conditions.
Troubleshoot DCS issues, control loops, and field instrumentation to maintain process stability and minimize downtime.
Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to address DCS-related failures and implement necessary upgrades or improvements.
Team Leadership and Supervision:
Lead and manage a team of control room operators, ensuring effective coordination for safe and efficient operations.
Provide ongoing training, guidance, and mentorship to control room staff on DCS operations, safety standards, and process optimization techniques.
Oversee shift schedules, ensuring proper staffing and smooth transition between shifts for uninterrupted plant operation.
Ensure operators adhere to operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain high safety and environmental standards.
Process Control and Optimization:
Monitor and adjust process parameters in real-time to ensure consistent polymer quality and yield.
Identify opportunities for process optimization and work with the engineering team to implement control strategies that improve throughput, reduce energy consumption, and minimize waste.
Work with process engineers to fine-tune control strategies and introduce improvements to DCS configurations.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
Identify and resolve issues related to DCS hardware, software, and control systems in real time.
Diagnose and correct issues in the continuous polymerization process related to feedstock quality, polymerization conditions, and reactor performance.
Work with engineering to implement corrective actions, improvements, or updates to control strategies or DCS settings.
Collaboration and Communication:
Act as the main point of contact between control room operators, process engineers, maintenance teams, and senior management.
Provide regular updates to senior management on process performance, operational challenges, and improvement projects.
Collaborate with the R&D and engineering departments to incorporate process changes, new technologies, or process scaling activities.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of DCS modifications, control strategies, shift logs, and process deviations.
Compile detailed reports on operational performance, DCS system status, and any corrective actions taken.
Ensure that all necessary documentation is complete for regulatory compliance, safety audits, and quality assurance.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements, including better control schemes, automation techniques, and system upgrades.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis, and post-mortem reviews following plant upsets or incidents.
Stay updated with industry trends, new DCS technologies, and polymerization process innovations.
