Job Description

Role Overview

The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for the secure, resilient, and high-performance management of databases supporting MES, SCADA, OT, and enterprise applications. The role includes lifecycle management, security compliance, modernization, and migration initiatives, ensuring seamless integration with manufacturing and corporate environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Operations & Lifecycle Management

Administer and optimize Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MySQL databases across production, staging, and development environments.

Ensure high availability and performance of databases supporting MES, SCADA, and manufacturing automation systems.

Implement and validate backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans aligned with business continuity requirements.

Manage databases for vendor-developed solutions, OT systems, and internally built applications.

Ensure data integrity and consistency across cross-functional applications.

2. Security, Compliance & Audit Readiness

Implement data-at-rest and data-in-transit encryption using enterprise-grade security tools.

Enforce access control policies, including privileged account monitoring and least privilege principles.

Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to apply patches, remediate vulnerabilities, and strengthen database security posture.

Maintain audit compliance with ISO 27001, TISAX, and internal governance policies.

Implement and manage Change Data Capture (CDC) for tracking data changes.

3. Monitoring, Alerting & Performance Tuning

Deploy real-time monitoring integrated with SIEM tools (e.g., Qradar).

Configure alerts for anomalies, unauthorized access attempts, and performance degradation.

Perform indexing, query tuning, and database performance optimization.

Conduct capacity planning and proactive scaling of database environments.

4. Modernization & Migration Initiatives

Lead migration from SQL Server to PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or equivalent open-source platforms.

Design and execute migration strategies ensuring minimal downtime and zero data loss.

Introduce and support containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for database deployments.

Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) for automated provisioning and scalability.

5. Collaboration & Documentation

Work with application, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and OT teams to ensure secure and efficient data flow.

Maintain detailed documentation such as schemas, access logs, SOPs, and configuration baselines.

Mentor junior DBAs and developers on performance tuning, query optimization, and secure coding practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong hands-on expertise in SQL Server and PostgreSQL (MySQL/MongoDB is a plus).

Experience with DB administration on Windows & Linux environments.

Proficiency in backup tools, clustering, mirroring, replication, and failover strategies.

Knowledge of SIEM, encryption technologies, SSL/TLS, and role-based authentication.

Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.

Exposure to MES/SCADA/OT environments is preferred.

Understanding of ISO 27001, TISAX, or similar compliance frameworks.

Good to Have

Experience with cloud DB platforms (AWS RDS, Azure Database Services).

Automation/scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python, SQL).

Knowledge of Kafka, ETL pipelines, or data engineering tools.
