Position: Dairy farm Veterinarian
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out artificial insemination (AI) and pregnancy checks; maintain reproduction records.
- Assist in rescue, emergency response, treatment and rehabilitation of cows, calves and other livestock.
- Provide calf care: colostrum management, feeding, monitoring growth and disease prevention.
- Assist with calving: monitor parturition, assist difficult births, provide neonatal care and summon veterinarian when needed.
- Perform hand milking when required and support milking routines.
- Administer first aid, routine vaccinations and basic medical care; support vaccination drives.
- Support veterinarians during diagnosis, treatments and medical procedures.
- Maintain accurate medical records, vaccination schedules and treatment histories.
- Monitor daily livestock health, nutrition, hydration and hygiene; report abnormalities.
- Oversee animal nutrition management: formulate/monitor rations, manage fodder quality and feeding programs.
- Oversee fodder supply, feeding routines and ensure proper shelter, bedding and environmental conditions.
- Perform farm management tasks: inventory, equipment upkeep, recordkeeping, labor coordination and basic biosecurity implementation.
- Train and mentor staff and volunteers on humane handling, nutrition best practices and animal-care protocols.
- Ensure compliance with animal-welfare standards, protocols and biosecurity measures.
Key Requirements
- 3-5 years' experience in the veterinary/livestock field.
- Diploma in Veterinary Sciences, Livestock Assistance or equivalent (VLDA, LSA or similar).
- Practical knowledge of livestock handling, vaccination schedules, calving procedures and animal nutrition (preferred).
- AI certification or demonstrated experience in artificial insemination (preferred).
- Experience with hand milking and milking hygiene preferred.
- Strong commitment to animal welfare and compassionate care.
- Ability to work in field conditions, handle physical tasks and respond to emergencies.
- Good record-keeping, communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable
- Prior experience in rescue or field veterinary work.
- Animal first-aid certification or familiarity with common livestock diseases.
