Role OverviewThe Tool & Cutter Grinder is responsible for grinding, sharpening, fabrication, and maintenance of cutting tools to ensure dimensional accuracy, tool life, and consistent production quality in compliance with engineering drawings and quality standards (p. 1).Key Responsibilities1. Tool Grinding & Maintenance
Grind, sharpen, fabricate, and modify cutting tools such as end mills, drills, reamers, form tools, special cutters, molds, and dies (p. 1).
Maintain tool geometry as per approved drawings and specifications (angles, profiles, radii, cutting edges) (p. 1).
Perform preventive maintenance of tool & cutter grinding machines to prevent failures and production downtime (p. 2).
Repair and recondition tools and inserts through re-grinding, welding, or replacement of parts as required (p. 2).
2. Machine Setup & Operation
Set up manual and CNC tool & cutter grinding machines for sharpening and fabrication operations (p. 2).
Select appropriate grinding wheels, fixtures, tooling, and inserts as per job requirements (p. 2).
Operate surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and tool & cutter grinders safely and accurately (p. 2).
Adjust machine parameters such as speed, feed, depth of cut, and alignment to achieve required tolerances (p. 2).
3. Quality Inspection
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and tool specifications (p. 2).
Measure and inspect tools using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, dial gauges, and gauges (p. 2).
Ensure sharpened or fabricated tools produce components that meet defined quality standards (p. 2).
Maintain records related to inspections, tool wear patterns, and tool life expectancy (p. 2).
4. Documentation & Compliance
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions (p. 2).
Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO standards, and applicable regulatory and safety requirements (p. 2).
5. Safety & Housekeeping
Maintain high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness in the tool room (p. 3).
Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) (p. 3).
6. Continuous Improvement
Monitor tool wear and performance and suggest improvements to tooling design, grinding methods, or materials (p. 3).
Participate in initiatives to reduce tool changeover time and minimize tooling waste (p. 3).
7. Coordination & Support
Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to ensure tool availability as per production schedules (p. 3).
Assist in training junior or new tool room staff, if required (p. 3).
