The Cutting List Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cutting lists and material specifications for furniture production. This role ensures optimal material utilization, cost efficiency, and seamless workflow between design, production, and procurement teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Study technical drawings, shop drawings, and design specifications to prepare detailed cutting lists for wood, boards, laminates, metal, glass, and other materials.
Convert design and workshop drawings into production-friendly cutting schedules.
Ensure accurate dimensions, edge banding details, finishes, and hardware requirements are included in cutting lists.
Optimize material usage to minimize wastage and reduce production costs.
Coordinate with designers, CNC programmers, and production supervisors to clarify technical details.
Cross-check cutting lists with bills of materials (BOM) and client-approved drawings before release.
Issue cutting lists to production and follow up on execution.
Identify material shortages and provide inputs to procurement for timely ordering.
Support quality control by ensuring cutting lists match design specifications and customer requirements.
Maintain documentation of all cutting lists for traceability and revisions.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes (wood, metal, panel boards, laminates, veneers, etc.).
Ability to read and interpret technical/design/shop drawings.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, or other design/CAM software (preferred).
Knowledge of CNC cutting and nesting software (advantage).
Strong analytical and numerical skills for material optimization.
Detail-oriented with good organizational and communication skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Interior Design, or Furniture Technology (preferred).
3-7 years of experience as a Cutting List Engineer, Draftsman, or similar role in furniture/interior manufacturing.
Experience in modular furniture, shopfitting, or joinery industry is highly desirable.
