The Cutlist Designer is responsible for transforming approved design drawings into accurate production-ready documents. This role bridges design, production, and management -- ensuring seamless coordination, optimized material usage, and transparent communication from drawing receipt to final dispatch. The position demands both technical precision and cross-functional collaboration to maintain Craftsville's commitment to quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Input Review & Documentation
Receive and review approved design drawings, hardware lists, and material specifications from the Design/Estimation team.
Verify that all inputs are final, accurate, and aligned with project requirements before initiating cutlist preparation.
Maintain organized documentation for all production drawings, revisions, and communications.
2. Cutlist & BOM Preparation
Prepare detailed module-wise cutlists for kitchens, wardrobes, and other furniture.
Apply accurate deductions for material thickness and hardware allowances.
Prepare complete
Bill of Materials (BOM)
, hardware lists, and edge banding lists.
Define grain direction, edge banding sides, and board optimization plans.
Assign appropriate material codes (e.g., MDF 18mm, BSL 1mm, HPL) as per factory standards.
3. Optimization & Validation
Use software tools or manual nesting methods to achieve material optimization and minimize wastage.
Cross-verify all sizes, quantities, and edge band details.
Ensure cutlists align with hardware specifications, production feasibility, and assembly methods.
Maintain revision logs and track version changes for every project.
4. Communication & Coordination
Coordinate with the
Design Team
for design clarifications and corrections.
Collaborate with
Production
and
Purchase Teams
regarding material shortages, substitutions, or updates.
Maintain close communication with the
CTO
for client communications and new technology adoption.
Escalate major doubts or project concerns promptly to the
CEO
and maintain transparency with the
Board Members
.
Post regular progress updates in the designated internal groups.
5. Quality Assurance
Perform quality checks between
Cutlist
,
BOQ
, and design drawings.
Verify grain directions, shutter alignments, and hardware placements before production release.
Visit site locations when necessary to validate fitment accuracy with the person-in-charge.
Track and report weekly optimization and wastage data.
6. Compliance & System Usage
Use only company-provided devices for client or vendor communication unless explicitly approved otherwise.
Follow company documentation, data-sharing, and storage protocols.
Manage the entire file lifecycle -- from
Pre-Production ? Production ? Dispatch
-- ensuring complete traceability.
7. Reporting & Record Management
Submit daily progress reports to the Production Manager.
Maintain digital and printed archives of all project files, including cutlists, BOMs, and optimization reports.
Continuously improve documentation practices and contribute to the evolution of Craftsville's AI and ERP systems.
Skill Requirements:
Strong understanding of modular furniture design and production workflows.
Proficiency in CAD tools, cutlist generation software, or nesting optimization tools.
Knowledge of materials (plywood, MDF, laminates, edge bands, etc.) and hardware systems.
Excellent documentation, communication, and coordination skills.
Attention to detail with a problem-solving mindset.
Work closely with the
Managing Director
for any site-level or operational issues.
