The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies to ensure infection control standards are maintained throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Decontamination
Receive used instruments and equipment from various departments.
Inspect, sort, and clean instruments manually and using automated washers.
Ensure proper use of enzymatic and disinfectant solutions.
Sterilization Process
Operate autoclaves, ETO, plasma sterilizers, and other sterilization equipment.
Label, pack, and wrap instruments as per standard sterilization protocols.
Maintain sterility indicators and records for each cycle.
Quality Control & Documentation
Perform biological and chemical indicator tests to ensure sterilization efficacy.
Maintain records of sterilization loads, equipment maintenance, and supply distribution.
Report malfunctioning equipment immediately to the incharge.
Supply & Inventory Management
Maintain adequate stock of sterile packs, linen, and consumables.
Ensure timely supply of sterile items to wards, OT, ICU, and other departments.
Support periodic audits and inventory verification.
Infection Control & Safety
Follow all hospital infection control protocols and safety standards.
Wear appropriate PPE during all cleaning and sterilization procedures.
Participate in CSSD training and continuous education programs.
Coordination
Communicate with OT, ICU, and ward staff for instrument needs and return schedules.
Support in training junior staff and maintaining departmental discipline.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Diploma in CSSD Technology / OT Technician / Diploma in Medical Sterilization Technology
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in a hospital CSSD or equivalent setup
Skills Required:
Knowledge of sterilization techniques (Steam, ETO, Plasma, Dry Heat)
Understanding of infection control and aseptic practices
Record-keeping and basic computer skills
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
