Receive used medical instruments from OT, ICU, wards, and other units.
Perform manual cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, and disinfection of instruments.
Separate instruments based on type and level of contamination.
2. Packing & Sterilization
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
Assemble instrument sets as per standard checklists.
Pack items using approved wrapping techniques and materials.
Operate sterilization equipment including autoclaves, ETO, plasma sterilizers, etc.
Label, date, and log all sterilized packs.
3. Sterilization Monitoring
Conduct chemical and biological indicator tests for sterilization validation.
Maintain records of sterilization cycles, temperature, pressure, and exposure time.
Ensure proper documentation for audit and compliance.
4. Storage & Distribution
Store sterile instruments in designated sterile areas.
Distribute sterile supplies to OT, ICU, wards, and other departments as required.
Track instrument inventory, usage, and shortages.
5. Equipment Maintenance
Clean and maintain sterilizers and cleaning machinery.
Report malfunctioning equipment to the engineering/biomedical team.
Follow preventive maintenance schedules.
6. Infection Control & Safety
Strictly follow infection control and sterilization protocols.
Use PPE while handling contaminated instruments.
Prevent cross-contamination by maintaining workflow separation (dirty ? clean ? sterile).
7. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate logs for cleaning, sterilization, and distribution activities.
Assist in audits, quality checks, and accreditation requirements (NABH/JCI).
Report discrepancies, damaged instruments, and shortages to supervisors.
8. Team Coordination
Work closely with OT staff, nurses, and department heads.
Ensure timely supply of sterilized instruments for surgeries.
Participate in departmental training sessions and skill development programs.
