The CSSD Technician is responsible for the cleaning, sterilization, packaging, and distribution of surgical instruments, equipment, and medical devices. The technician ensures all sterile items meet infection control standards and supports safe patient care by providing properly sterilized instruments to various hospital departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Decontamination:
Receive, sort, and clean used surgical instruments and equipment.
Follow proper procedures for handling contaminated items using PPE.
Operate ultrasonic cleaners and washer-disinfectors.
Inspection and Assembly:
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
Assemble instrument sets according to surgical schedules and standards.
Replace or report broken/missing instruments.
Sterilization:
Operate and monitor autoclaves and other sterilizing equipment (e.g., ETO, plasma).
Load and unload sterilizers according to protocols.
Ensure correct labeling and documentation of sterilized items.
Storage and Distribution:
Store sterilized items in sterile storage areas under standard conditions.
Maintain par levels and issue sterile supplies to operation theatres, wards, and other units.
Track usage and maintain accurate inventory records.
Compliance:
Follow infection control and hospital safety guidelines.
Ensure accurate record-keeping and documentation of sterilization logs.
Participate in quality assurance and department audits.
Skills & Qualifications:
Diploma or Certification in CSSD Technology or related healthcare field.
Basic knowledge of sterilization processes and infection control.
Attention to detail and ability to follow standard protocols.
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and handle equipment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
