The CSSD Technician is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, preparation, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with hospital protocols and international standards. The technician ensures that all reusable instruments and supplies are clean, sterile, and ready for use in patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Decontamination:
Receive soiled instruments and equipment from various hospital departments.
Clean and disinfect instruments using manual and automated methods.
Preparation & Packaging:
Inspect instruments for cleanliness and damage.
Assemble instrument trays according to standard operating procedures.
Wrap, label, and prepare trays and equipment for sterilization.
Sterilization:
Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment (e.g., ETO, plasma sterilizers).
Monitor and document sterilization parameters to ensure compliance with standards.
Perform routine biological and chemical testing of sterilizers.
Storage & Distribution:
Store sterilized items in a clean and organized manner.
Distribute sterile items to operating rooms, wards, and other clinical areas as requested.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and inventory.
Comply with infection control and safety guidelines.
Participate in internal and external audits of CSSD practices.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification in sterile processing (e.g., CRCST, CBSPD) is preferred from Maharashtra
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in CSSD or similar healthcare environment.
Skills & Competencies:
Knowledge of sterilization techniques and equipment.
Familiarity with surgical instruments and medical supplies.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory systems.
Working Conditions:
May involve exposure to biological hazards and sterilization chemicals.
Requires standing for long periods and handling heavy instrument trays.
