Job Summary
The CSSD Technician is responsible for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment in accordance with hospital policies and infection control standards. The role ensures safe, sterile, and timely availability of instruments for patient care.

Key Responsibilities
1. Decontamination & Cleaning
Collect used instruments from Operation Theatres and clinical departments.
Perform manual and automated cleaning of surgical instruments.
Disassemble and clean instruments as per manufacturer instructions.
Use appropriate detergents, disinfectants, and cleaning equipment.
Follow infection control protocols during handling of contaminated items.

2. Packing & Preparation
Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage.
Assemble instrument trays and procedure sets correctly.
Pack instruments using appropriate wrapping materials.
Label packs accurately with date, batch number, and contents.

3. Sterilization Process
Operate autoclaves, ETO, plasma sterilizers, and washer disinfectors.
Load and unload sterilization equipment correctly.
Monitor sterilization cycles and parameters.
Perform biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring tests.
Maintain proper records of all sterilization cycles.

4. Storage & Distribution
Store sterile items according to hospital policy.
Maintain sterile storage area in a clean and organized manner.
Issue sterile instruments and supplies to various departments.
Ensure proper inventory rotation (FIFO method).

5. Equipment Maintenance
Clean and maintain CSSD equipment regularly.
Report malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.
Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed.

6. Documentation
Maintain accurate records of:
Sterilization logs
Equipment usage
Biological indicators
Instrument inventory
Follow traceability procedures for all instrument sets.

7. Infection Control & Safety
Follow universal precautions and PPE guidelines.
Adhere to hospital infection control policies.
Participate in infection control audits.
Ensure safe handling of sharp instruments.

8. Quality Assurance
Follow NABH / JCI / ISO standards in CSSD practices.
Participate in internal audits and quality improvement activities.
Report errors, incidents, or non-conformities.

Qualifications
Education:
Diploma / Certificate in CSSD Technology
OR Nursing / Allied Health qualification
Experience:
1-3 years' experience in hospital CSSD (preferred)
