Emergency response
: They are the first point of contact for medical emergencies within the hospital, including resuscitations (e.g., Code Blue), and must be able to perform advanced life support procedures.
Patient management
: They monitor the patient's vitals and clinical condition, manage therapies like ventilators and infusions, and adjust treatment protocols as needed.
Collaboration with the care team
: A DMO works closely with other hospital staff, including senior consultants, intensivists, specialists, and nursing staff, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
Maintaining records
: They are responsible for detailed and accurate documentation of patient histories, examinations, treatments, and progress notes, which is vital for legal compliance and continuity of care.
Communication
: DMOs communicate regularly with patients' families to update them on their loved one's condition and discuss care plans.
