Kofuku is building a platform for conversations that are often unspoken -- from deeply personal health journeys to vulnerable questions and human truths that struggle to find a safe space elsewhere.
We are not interested in repeating familiar creative playbooks. We are building something new, and that requires a Creative Director who starts from human insight and cultural tension, not from templates or trends.
This role is for someone who is excited by ambiguity, comfortable taking intentional creative risks, and motivated by designing original formats that can shape culture -- not just fill feeds.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN & BE JUDGED UPON:
1. Creative Vision & Disruptive Thinking
Own Kofuku's creative voice, tone, and visual language across platforms
Translate emotionally complex, sensitive, and deeply human experiences into scalable creative systems
Design original formats that encourage participation, reflection, and conversation
Build work that is felt, debated, and remembered, not just consumed
Push creativity beyond aesthetics into meaning and behaviour
2. From Thought to Execution
Take ideas from concept to execution without waiting for perfect briefs
Balance boldness with discipline -- ideas must ship, not live only in decks
Step in personally when timelines are tight or quality dips
Build repeatable creative systems rather than one-off moments
This is not a client-agency role.
The Creative Director at Kofuku is expected to define problems, not wait for them to be articulated. Success in this role comes from creating clarity in ambiguity, setting creative direction proactively, and moving teams forward without dependency on exhaustive briefs or approvals.
3. Team Leadership & Accountability
Build and lead a multidisciplinary creative team (design, video, motion, social)
Set clear expectations around quality, timelines, and ownership
Review work early and honestly to avoid last-minute corrections
Develop original thinkers, not just executors
Create a culture where creative courage and responsibility coexist
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Content, Marketing, and Product teams
Understand how creative decisions impact engagement, trust, and behaviour
Adapt creative direction based on insight, not ego
Ensure creativity supports both emotional resonance and platform growth
HOW WE THINK ABOUT CREATIVITY AND WHAT MADNESS MEANS TO US
We believe in madness through creativity. We are not interested in generic ideas adopted simply because they appear to work elsewhere. We are here to disrupt intentionally and with purpose.
We believe creativity should:
Challenge default thinking
Feel slightly uncomfortable at first
Be rooted in human truth, not imitation
Earn attention rather than demand it
Use visuals that communicate meaning and hold attention
We value intentional risk... brave ideas grounded in insight and execution discipline.
Disruption for its own sake is noise. Disruption with clarity builds culture.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
8-10+ years of experience in creative roles, preferably in digital-first or early-stage environments
Proven ability to build or evolve a creative team
Experience working on consumer, community, or content-led platforms
Strong understanding of platform behaviour and creative performance
Comfort working closely with founders and receiving direct feedback
Willingness to be hands-on when the situation demands it
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF:
You rely on familiar frameworks to feel confident
You prefer certainty over experimentation
You supervise more than you create
You value polish over impact
You struggle in fast-moving, high-ownership environments
INTERVIEW EXPECTATIONS:
You will be asked to:
Defend an original creative idea
Challenge an existing industry norm
Think out loud with limited context
Show how you balance instinct with structure
We are not trying to be universally appealing.
We are trying to be deeply resonant with the people who need this platform.
If you are driven by originality, cultural intuition, and the desire to build something that hasn't existed before, Let's talk.
