About the role

At Novartis Global Health & Sustainability (GH&S), we have a long-standing history in addressing global health challenges. Over the past 20 years, our approach has evolved from purely donation-based to also include other models with more sustainable social impact. Today, we apply our expertise and full organizational capabilities to address major, unresolved global health challenges. In India, our GH&S team is focused on improving healthcare for underserved populations through our long-standing Arogya Parivar (AP) program, a community health program which addresses social issues that impact access to healthcare.
Our AP Global Health work is currently focused on two key disease areas - Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Leprosy. Under our AP program we plan to support the government of India\'s goal to increase access to SCD services in tribal communities. To this effect, we are working with the government to determine how we can best help strengthen health systems and improve access to effective SCD care for these communities including access to affordable medicines.

Novartis donations of multidrug therapy to the WHO have been a cornerstone for global elimination efforts, leading to the treatment of more than 7.3 million leprosy patients worldwide since 2000. The government of India has set forth a vision for a \xe2\x80\x9cleprosy-free India\xe2\x80\x9d through the National Leprosy Eradication Program, with a mission to provide free quality leprosy services to all sections of the population. Arogya Parivar will support the government of India in reaching its leprosy elimination goals by building on our company\'s long-standing expertise in the field and leveraging our experience in expanding access and communities and enhancing our current donation program

Key Responsibilities

  • Help build the supportive healthcare ecosystem in India that is essential for the success & sustainability of the Novartis\' Global Health Leprosy program (supporting the last mile of MDT and implementation of LPEP). Within this, provide leadership and strategic alignment with cross-functional teams & external stakeholders/ partners to drive the implementation of the Global Leprosy Program strategy in India. Provide Medical affairs support to the disease areas supported by the Arogya Parivar (Healthy family) program (primarily focused on SCD, and other therapeutic areas as required). Represent the medical/ scientific voice of expertise locally in India for AP, and leprosy, and any other therapeutic areas/ GH&S Programs (as required), including scientific exchange and professional relationship development with key thought leaders/ external experts.
  • GH&S India Leprosy Access and Medical Strategy-Building and driving the implementation of a customized strategy for India Leprosy program in alignment with Global Program team, with a focus on active case detection and diagnosis, treating them with MDT, last mile distribution of MDT donation, contact tracing and interventions for interruption of transmission (e.g SDR PEP implementation). Stakeholder Engagement/ Relationship Building/ Advocacy /Policy Shaping within the local Leprosy community and landscape to support local goals of zero elimination (Govt, NGOs, iNGOs, Physician community, Civil society etc.)
  • In collaboration with cross-functional local and global teams, ensure identification, mapping and engagement of Medical Experts (MEs), health system shapers, and synergistic partners in alignment with the AP and leprosy strategy. Work with cross-functional team on the Global leprosy program strategic imperative focused on Access - To optimize access to MDT, whilst creating a framework for access to SDR. (Supporting India Healthcare System readiness criteria to optimize Novartis-WHO donation program of MDT and activate India implementation of Novartis-WHO SDR donation program).
  • Implementation of high-impact health system strengthening interventions to support local goals of transmission elimination, including evaluation of digital/data management tools, community mobilization models and other key interventions. Collect, analyse and report insights from HCPs to inform and shape Medical and Programmatic strategy for AP and leprosy.
  • Support India Global Health strategy implementation, through key Medical Affairs workstreams including leprosy and SCD ME Engagement and Management, Education & Awareness Material Development/Review, HCP Training and CMEs, Hydroxyurea pre-launch/ launch readiness activities. Develops and leads execution of customer-centric medical strategies . Ensure effective local data generation and dissemination through a comprehensive medical communications.
  • Continuous monitoring and analysis of the external environment to ensure strategic, fit-for-purpose engagements. Support and coordinate key internal and external non-promotional scientific events, HSS, and disease awareness activities related to strategy. Upon unsolicited request, provide non-promotional and scientific data/ Medical Information service on Novartis products to HCPs. Identify opportunities for joint value creation and engage with the key thought leaders and other partners in the healthcare systems advocating in the assigned GH Program/ therapeutic area
  • Local, Regional and Global Coordination- Serve as a key member of the Arogya Parivar leadership team from a Medical Affairs and HSS perspective focused on Leprosy and Sickle Cell Disease. Collaborate cross-functionally with Global Health Programs (GHP)) where required) to ensure timely delivery of customer-centric Medical Affairs and HSS solutions in India and maximize customer satisfaction.
Role Requirements

Role Requirements :
  • Pharmacist, MSc, MBBS, degree in other life sciences. Doctoral degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, MD). Additionally, Master\'s in health-related topic e.g. Public Health, Health Economics, Health Policy, Access related professional qualifications) is desired.
  • Quality of scientific data supporting access initiatives, Quality of Medical Affairs strategy/ operations/ activities. Excellent stakeholder management skills with agreed outcomes, Able to influence without authority.
  • 5 years + experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or 2 years + working experience in Medical Affairs/HSS/Partnerships related setting with significant exposure in India at state level Additional experience in Institutional /iNGO sector is desirable. Strong knowledge of the healthcare environment including an understanding of the unified patient journey and HCP journey and methods to identify health system gaps.
  • Solid knowledge of the role of Medical Affairs to advance scientific objectives of a pharmaceutical company through: Evidence generation, Evidence dissemination, and external stakeholder engagement. Experience with scientific and HSS activities and events planning and implementation (incl advisory boards, congress symposia, CPD programs, disease awareness campaigns etc).
  • Established pharma and healthcare system knowledge. Development and/or Evidence-generating/dissemination strategies. Proven project management skills: project design, stakeholder alignment and management, implementation, and success measures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal problem-solving skills, and influencing in a complex highly matrixed environment, to achieve desired business outcomes. Strategic agility and organizational skills to prioritize and work effectively in a dynamic environment and from remote locations from time to time.
Desirable Requirements: Exposure to Regulatory Affairs and Value & Access principles and / or pre-launch/ product launch experience. Knowledge & strong stakeholder network in NCD /primary healthcare sector nationally and state wise.
