Review customer drawings, 3D CAD models, and technical specifications.
Identify mold type, complexities, parting line, gating, cooling, ejection, and BOM requirements.
Estimate cost for:
Injection molds (prototype, production, multi-cavity)
Toolroom machining parts (CNC, EDM, WEDM, milling, grinding)
Mold modifications & repairs
Calculate material cost, machining cost, labour, consumables & overheads.
Prepare detailed quotation/estimate sheets for Sales/Management.
2. Vendor Coordination
Obtain quotations for standard parts, steel, heat treatment, EDM electrodes, etc.
Maintain a reliable vendor cost database.
Negotiate rates for outsourced operations.
3. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain costing logs, RFQ tracker, revision history, and cost sheets.
Provide costing inputs for commercial proposals and client presentations.
Work with project management & design teams for technical clarifications.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of injection mold manufacturing processes.
Understanding of machining operations and their cycle times.
Proficiency in reading 2D drawings and 3D CAD models (SolidWorks / NX / Creo preferred).
Knowledge of steel grades, mold components, and standard part selection.
Understanding of electrode planning, shrinkage, mold BOM, and lifter/slider mechanisms.
Soft Skills
Strong analytical & numerical ability.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Ability to work under tight timelines.
Team coordination with Sales / Design / Purchase / Toolroom.
Education
Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering / Tool & Die Making.
Additional training in mold design, CAD/CAM, or costing is an advantage
