Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Costing Engineer with hands-on experience in CNC machining and CAM programming. The role involves preparing accurate cost estimates for machined components and assemblies, analyzing production processes, and working closely with design, programming, and operations teams to support competitive pricing and manufacturing efficiency.
Duties and responsibilities / Key Result Areas ? Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical documents to calculate cost estimates for precision-machined components and assemblies. ? Evaluate machining processes (turning, milling, multi-axis, etc.) and estimate machine cycle times using CAM simulations and toolpath analysis. ? Prepare comprehensive costing sheets that include material, machine time, manpower, tooling, inspection, subcontracting, and overhead. ? Utilize CAM software (such as Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidCAM, or similar) to simulate operations, optimize toolpaths, and validate machining feasibility. ? Collaborate with the CAM programming team to ensure the cost-effectiveness of manufacturing strategies and tool selections. ? Engage with vendors and subcontractors to collect pricing for raw materials, heat treatment, plating, and other services. ? Maintain an up-to-date cost database and feed accurate data into ERP systems for quotation and production planning purposes. ? Analyse post-production costing variances and provide insights for cost reduction and process improvement. ? Support business development and technical sales teams with timely and competitive cost proposals. ? Stay current with trends in tooling, machining technologies, CAM advancements, and raw material markets.
Required Skills & Qualifications: ? Education: Diploma/Degree in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
? Experience: 3-6 years in cost estimation or manufacturing engineering within a precision machining environment.
? Proficient in CNC machining principles, time estimation, and process planning.
? Working knowledge of CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidCAM) is mandatory. ? Strong understanding of GD&T, cutting tools, machine setups, and fixturing.
? Exposure to a variety of materials such as MS, SS, aluminium, titanium, and engineering plastics.
? Strong documentation, communication, and coordination skills. Preferred Attributes: ? Analytical mindset with an eye for detail and process optimization.
? Ability to balance cost, quality, and delivery timelines effectively.
? Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or medical device quality systems is a plus. ? Passion for manufacturing technology and continuous learning. Working conditions ? The role is primarily based out of Pune office location.
? May require occasional shop floor presence for observation or process validation. ? Must be willing to travel to vendor locations, customer sites, or subcontractor facilities as and when required.
? Working hours may occasionally extend during tight project deadlines or quotation phases.
