The Costing Engineer is responsible for analyzing, preparing, and monitoring the cost structure of manufacturing projects. This role ensures accurate estimation, budgeting, and cost control for fixtures, machining, fabrication, and automation-related projects. The position involves close coordination with design, production, purchase, and finance teams to ensure cost-effectiveness and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation & Analysis
Prepare detailed cost estimates for new projects, RFQs, and customer inquiries.
Analyze raw material, machining, fabrication, assembly, and labor costs.
Develop cost breakdowns for fixtures, tools, and automation equipment.
Benchmark costing with market rates and suppliers.
Budgeting & Control
Monitor actual project costs vs. estimated costs.
Identify cost deviations and provide corrective actions.
Support finance and management in pricing strategy and profit margin analysis.
Supplier & Procurement Coordination
Work with purchase team for material cost verification.
Negotiate with vendors for optimized pricing.
Maintain updated database of supplier rates and cost trends.
Process & Productivity Improvement
Suggest cost-saving measures through process optimization.
Conduct value engineering studies for cost reduction.
Standardize costing methods and templates for accuracy.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare costing reports, variance analysis, and profitability statements.
Maintain historical data of project costing for future reference.
Support management with cost insights during decision-making.
