The Role: Corporate Emissions Analyst

The Location: Gurgaon, India

Grade (relevant for internal applicants only): 10

The Team: you will be part of the Gas, Power & Climate Solutions Division, at S&P Global Commodity Insights - specifically within the Climate and Energy Transformation team. This team produces data, analytics, and insights to help our customers make critical operational, strategy and investment decisions to meet lower emission commitments.

What\'s in it for you: You will work on a high-potential, cross commodity, and cross sectoral product - collaborating with and learning from a wide range of in-house experts covering all aspects of global energy markets and the Energy Transition and engage with a wide array of customers. You will also work closely with other functions including Economists, Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Management, Commercial and Marketing to support the development of the Corporate Emissions Solution service. The Role:

The role sits at the crossroad between multiple teams of experts modelling emissions data across the upstream, midstream, downstream, power, and various industrial sectors. The role requires to build a solid understanding of these teams\' work and of the methodologies applied to account for and model emissions data. You will collaborate with sectoral experts as well as the data and product teams to develop our cross-sectoral emissions database, identify coverage opportunities and offer a world-class solution for our customers.

Our customers represent a wide range of activities across the energy, financial and research industries. As a result, our analysis is reviewed and challenged from many different perspectives. A key focus of this role will be to engage with customers and address their questions on our emissions data and methodologies.

You will also be responsible for regular reviews of global, corporate and cross-sectoral emissions data and work closely with data scientists on QA/QC processes.

The analyst is part of growing team, tasked with developing and maintaining a complex greenhouse gas emissions database - tied to particular assets, installation and companies and incorporating future outlooks. Critical to success will be ability to understand complex GHG calculation principles across sectors and explain these to a variety of customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work across multiple business lines
  • Pro-active attitude and the willingness to take ownership of the development of the product\'s research roadmap
  • Understand the universe of emissions data within Commodity Insights and stay up-to-date on developments
  • Provide input and ideas for new data collection opportunities and product enhancements related to the dataset
  • Understand the working of the dataset, be aware of the workflows and have strong working knowledge of work tools
  • Identify data needed to track and monitor the changing policy space of the Energy Industry
  • Engage in the collection, compilation and distillation of environmental and climate policies - global, national, regional and corporate
  • Understand policy trends in emissions reporting and disclosure
  • Building an understanding of how technology and offsets will be leveraged to meet environmental standards
  • Maintain a fundamental understanding and ongoing updating of supply-demand oil, natural gas and power markets
  • Work closely with the broader team to track and understand the dynamics around global demand for GHG mitigation - mandatory and voluntary
  • Work with product development team to create new offerings and enhance existing product
  • Help generate thought leadership around green house gas emissions in the energy and industrial sectors
  • Monitor trends in emissions data, share insights through production of reports which illustrate relevant and constructive use cases of the underlying data
  • Engage with key team members is developing content and outreach with customers via calls, meetings, conferences, and events
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong team player able to collaborate across multi-cultural teams, commodities and geographies
  • University degree in energy systems, engineering, or a similar discipline accompanied with relevant industry or research experience
  • Comfortable taking initiative and demonstrating resourcefulness
  • Industry experience conducting research or market analysis in the energy transitions sector
  • Knowledge (and ideally experience) of carbon and energy policies, strong research and analytical skills, and an innovative approach to solving complex problems
  • Awareness of technologies and challenges for developing lower carbon intensive energy and supply chains
  • Ability to think critically, act decisively, and deliver results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex and innovative concepts to internal and external stakeholders of various market knowledge levels
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with stakeholders globally
  • Technical abilities around organizing and analyzing data. Strong Microsoft Suite skills are required with an emphasis on Excel
  • Experience of APIs and enterprise data delivery
