The Copy Editor will play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the written communication standards of Heritage Hospitals. This role involves reviewing, refining, and standardizing all hospital-related content, ranging from patient communication materials and digital content to internal documents and marketing collateral, to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment.
The position demands strong language proficiency, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex medical and institutional information into clear, accessible, and engaging content suited for diverse audiences, including patients, employees, and the media.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content review
Edit, proofread, and standardize all written materials including brochures, patient education leaflets, newsletters, web content, social media posts, press releases, and internal circulars
Ensure linguistic accuracy, factual correctness, and tone consistency across all communications in alignment with the hospital's brand voice and ethical standards
Simplify medical and technical language into patient-friendly content while preserving informational accuracy
Conduct final editorial checks before publication or circulation of any official document, both print and digital
2. Brand and communication alignment
Maintain a unified editorial style guide and ensure adherence across all departments
Collaborate closely with the marketing and design teams to synchronize written content with visuals and layout
Review external communication material prepared by departments (such as patient forms, information boards, or consent documents) to ensure linguistic clarity and professional presentation
3. Cross-functional coordination
Partner with clinical departments, HR, and Quality teams to ensure that documents and reports (e.g., policy drafts, training materials) are edited for clarity, structure, and readability
Work with the NABH and Quality teams to ensure documentation aligns with institutional standards and compliance language requirements
Provide editorial support for key corporate events, hospital publications, and leadership communications
4. Digital support
Edit and quality-check content for the hospital website, social media platforms, and online campaigns
Assist in curating health awareness articles, patient success stories, and blog content that reinforce the hospital's brand image and medical credibility
Skills and competencies:
Excellent command of English language (grammar, syntax, tone, and structure)
Strong attention to detail, fact-checking, and formatting consistency
Ability to understand medical and healthcare terminology and translate it into reader-friendly language
Competence in working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and editorial tools
Awareness of branding, digital communication practices, and healthcare ethics
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate across departments in a time-sensitive, multi-stakeholder environment
Desired qualification and experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Mass Communication, Journalism, or related discipline
3-6 years of experience in copy editing, preferably within healthcare, publishing, media, or corporate communications sectors
Prior experience in hospital or healthcare communication editing will be an added advantage
