The Cook will prepare hygienic and nutritious meals for hospital patients, staff, hostellers, and partnering hospitals. The role requires strong experience in hospital dietary meal preparation, bulk cooking, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
Key Responsibilities1. Hospital Patient Meals
Prepare meals according to hospital dietary guidelines (diabetic diet, soft diet, renal diet, high-protein diet, etc.).
Follow dietitian instructions for therapeutic diets.
Maintain nutrition, taste, and correct food consistency for patients.
2. Bulk Food Preparation for Other Hospitals
Cook large-quantity meals while maintaining uniform taste and quality.
Ensure timely preparation and dispatch of packed meals to other hospitals.
Follow packing, portion control, and hygiene standards for transport.
3. Hosteller Meals
Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and evening snacks for in-house hostel residents.
Ensure balanced, nutritious, and varied menus suited for regular consumption.
Maintain consistency, timely serving, and good taste suitable for daily hostel living.
Coordinate with the hostel warden and management for menu planning and special meal requests.
4. Kitchen Operations & Safety
Maintain kitchen hygiene, cleanliness of utensils, and proper sanitation practices.
Ensure safe handling, storage, and rotation of raw materials (FIFO).
Follow all food safety regulations (FSSAI standards preferred).
Prevent cross-contamination and adhere to infection control protocols.
Report low inventory and assist with stock management.
5. Team Coordination
Work closely with the kitchen supervisor, dietitian, helpers, and service staff.
Coordinate within the team to manage dual operations: hospital + hostel + external hospitals.
Support in menu planning and preparation based on seasonal availability.
Qualifications & Experience
2-4 years of experience
as a Cook in a
hospital, hostel, or institutional kitchen
.
Experience in
therapeutic diets
is compulsory.
Experience in
bulk cooking for 50+ meals per shift
is an advantage.
Knowledge of dietary restrictions and food safety norms.
Skills Required
Strong cooking skills with focus on healthy, simple, hygienic preparation.
Ability to handle large-volume cooking efficiently.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to follow menus, diet charts, and supervisor instructions.
Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent food quality.
