The Continental Commis Chef is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of continental dishes while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and consistency. This role supports senior chefs in daily operations and contributes to smooth kitchen functioning.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Cooking
Assist in preparing and cooking a variety of continental dishes (pastas, salads, grills, sauces, appetizers, etc.).
Follow standardized recipes and plating presentations.
Ensure timely preparation of dishes during service hours.
Support senior chefs in mise-en-place (cutting, marinating, prepping ingredients).
Kitchen Operations
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workstation.
Ensure proper storage of raw materials and cooked products.
Assist in inventory checks, stock rotation (FIFO), and minimizing food wastage.
Comply with portion control guidelines.
Quality & Hygiene
Follow food safety, sanitation, and HACCP standards.
Ensure fresh ingredients are used and report any quality concerns.
Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to grooming standards.
Team Collaboration
Coordinate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Support senior chefs during rush hours and special events.
Participate in menu trials and food tasting sessions when required.
Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Experience
Diploma/Certificate in Culinary Arts preferred.
1-3 years of experience as Commis Chef in continental cuisine (restaurants/hotels/cafes).
Technical Skills
Knowledge of continental cooking techniques (grilling, sauteing, baking, sauce making).
Familiarity with kitchen equipment (ovens, grills, fryers, etc.).
Understanding of food safety standards.
Soft Skills
Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Time management and attention to detail.
