The Container Repair Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating all repair, maintenance, and inspection activities related to shipping containers (dry, reefer, tank, and special units). This role ensures that all repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and international regulations such as IICL and ISO standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Coordination
Lead and supervise container repair teams, welders, painters, and fitters in daily operations.
Assign repair jobs and monitor progress to ensure timely completion and quality workmanship.
Review and approve repair estimates and repair codes in accordance with customer and IICL guidelines.
Quality & Compliance
Inspect repaired containers to ensure they meet structural, cosmetic, and safety standards.
Ensure compliance with company procedures, depot safety rules, and environmental policies.
Verify that all materials, spare parts, and consumables used meet required specifications.
Planning & Reporting
Schedule repair and maintenance activities to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
Prepare daily and weekly reports on repair output, manpower utilization, and material consumption.
Coordinate with depot management, operations, and customer service teams regarding container status and repair approvals.
Training & Safety
Train and mentor repair technicians in proper repair techniques, use of tools, and safety protocols.
Conduct toolbox meetings and ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations.
Promote a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Customer & Vendor Interaction
Liaise with surveyors, customers, and vendors on repair standards, cost estimates, and technical issues.
Support audits and inspections from customers or certification bodies.
Qualifications & Experience:
High school diploma or technical qualification in mechanical, welding, or marine engineering.
Minimum
5 years of experience
in container repair or maintenance, with at least
2 years in a supervisory role
.
Knowledge of
IICL repair standards
,
ISO container specifications
, and
CSC requirements
.
Proficiency in repair estimation systems and container depot management software is an advantage.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical repair codes.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily outdoors in a depot or terminal environment.
Exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
Must observe safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
