Join us in our Agile software development team on Elsevier\xe2\x80\x99s Research Data Platform. Collaborate closely with Data Scientists to derive insights from scientific papers using machine learning. Help and support our customers to be more productive and successful in their work

About the Role

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be involved in high-level technical designs and implementation of high quality, customer-driven solutions. You will work across the full-stack and the development life-cycle to deliver highly available cloud solutions and new capabilities to existing applications.

Collaborating with development teams you will ensure best-practice in unit and integration testing, CI/CD, documentation, security and software design

Responsibilities: -

Design, develop and maintain innovative solutions in collaboration with Architects, Data Scientists and Software engineering teams across the Research Data Platform

Troubleshoot production outages or issues that affect the team or product

Collaborate and support other teams in achieving a common goal

Participate in technical discussions to solve problems

Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.

Follow and promote best practices in agile development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews

Present technical information to stakeholders

Mentor junior developers on development methodologies and optimization techniques.

Requirements:

\xc2\xb7 Have extensive working experience with Java 8, 11 and 17

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity or the keenness to learn Python 3.10 and above

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate knowledge of software engineering design principles such as SOLID , REST , SOAP , Spring boot , Kafka , terraform , micro-services and event-driven architectures , linked data tools :- Docker/ Kubernetes

\xc2\xb7 Show an advanced knowledge of software development and deployment methodologies such as Agile , DevOps etc

\xc2\xb7 Be familiar with cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) , Microsoft Azure , Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Linux operating systems

\xc2\xb7 Have solid experience with CI/CD pipelines

\xc2\xb7 Be familiar with linked data

\xc2\xb7 Have a great understanding of normalized/dimensional data modelling principles and proficiency with data manipulation language including optimization techniques

\xc2\xb7 Have experience with system monitoring, alerting and logging tools such as New Relic

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate experience developing highly concurrent, scalable, secured and resilient applications

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate excellent written, verbal and presentation skills including communicating complex technical content to a range of audiences.

\xc2\xb7 Have an expressed keenness and interest to work with new technologies and learn new skills
