The Consultant Radiologist will provide high-quality diagnostic imaging and clinical radiology services, ensuring timely and accurate interpretation of studies and contributing to safe, effective patient care. The postholder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, participate in service development, and uphold the highest standards of clinical governance and professional practice.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties
Interpret a wide range of diagnostic imaging studies, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, and other modalities within the individual's scope of practice.
Provide clear, accurate, and timely imaging reports to support clinical decision-making.
Perform image-guided procedures such as biopsies, drainages, injections, or interventional radiology procedures (where appropriate).
Offer expert advice to referring clinicians on imaging selection and patient management pathways.
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing imaging expertise to patient management plans.
Ensure patient safety, including appropriate use of ionising radiation and contrast media, in accordance with regulatory standards.
Supervision & Leadership
Provide clinical leadership within the radiology team, promoting high standards of professional practice.
Supervise registrars, junior doctors, radiographers, and sonographers, offering guidance, teaching, and mentorship.
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental protocols and imaging guidelines.
Governance & Quality
Participate in clinical audit, discrepancy meetings, peer review, and quality assurance activities.
Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks (e.g., IRMER/IRR, infection control, data protection).
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the radiology department.

Medical Education
Primary medical degree
(e.g., MBBS, MBChB, MD, or equivalent recognised medical qualification
Completion of a
formal postgraduate specialist training programme in Radiology

GMC registration with licence to practise
CCT in Clinical Radiology
