Performs diagnostic imaging procedures such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), nuclear cardiology treadmill tests, mammography, and ultrasound, as well as interpreting the results. Utilises picture archiving and communications systems to review and transfer images and information. Provides referring physicians, patients, and families with examination findings and diagnostic information.
Examines medical records to assess a patient's risk factors (such as allergies to contrast chemicals) and to make judgements about the treatments' appropriateness.
Radiologic patients are counselled to explain the processes, dangers, benefits, and alternative therapies.
Regarding image-based diagnostics, consults with medical professionals.
Coordinates the use of radiological services with other medical procedures. Documents the execution, interpretation, and results of procedures. Establishes and enforces patient and employee safety standards.
Creates and oversees procedures to guarantee that image quality is maintained.
To make internal structures and organs visible on x-ray images and fluoroscopic screens, administers radiopaque chemicals by injection, orally, and as enemas. Recognises and resolves issues such as high blood pressure, discomfort, over-sedation, and bleeding during and after treatments. Radiation from radiography (x-rays), high-energy sources, and natural and synthetic radioisotopes is used to treat malignant internal and exterior growths.
Maintains and develops competence through participation in continuing education initiatives.
Participates in quality improvement efforts, such as conversations about areas where there is a high risk of error.
Implements guidelines for medications, resuscitation, emergencies, power outages, and infection control, among other things.
Provides teleradiology services to facilities without on-site radiologists.
Radiology staff is instructed in desired procedures, postures, or projections.
In charge of supervising and instructing residents or medical students.
