Key Responsibilities
Diagnosing and treating patients with neurological conditions, such as trauma, tumors, vascular disorders, infections, strokes, and degenerative or congenital diseases.
Overseeing and coordinating surgical teams in the operating theater, managing nurses, surgeons, and technical staff during complex procedures.
Performing surgeries using microscopes and advanced medical equipment for tasks like tumor removal, spinal interventions, treating wounds, and relieving chronic pain.
Ordering, interpreting, and performing diagnostic tests, including MRIs, PET scans, CT scans, and biopsies to guide treatment.
Monitoring patient progress pre- and post-operatively, adjusting treatment plans, prescribing medications, and communicating updates to families and referring physicians.
Handling emergency surgical cases, including unscheduled surgeries for life-threatening conditions.
Maintaining accurate patient records, completing administrative tasks, and participating in hospital business processes as a senior clinical leader.
Engaging in continuing professional development, attending conferences, and contributing to research and clinical trials to advance neurosurgical practice.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Medical degree (MD or equivalent), completion of accredited residency and fellowship in neurosurgery.
Valid license and certification to practice neurosurgery.
Strong knowledge of human anatomy, neurophysiology, and microsurgical techniques.
Excellent hand dexterity, hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and physical stamina for complex and lengthy surgical procedures.
Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills for working under pressure with multidisciplinary teams.
Emotional intelligence and resilience to manage the demanding and often stressful nature of neurosurgical practice.
Work Environment
Hospitals, specialized surgery centers, and major teaching hospitals with neurological units.
Long working hours, frequent on-call or emergency duty, and exposure to high-pressure situations in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Collaborative practice with neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and other medical specialists.
This is a demanding senior medical role requiring meticulous surgical expertise, teamwork, and patient-centered care in high-stakes clinical environments.
