Position Summary:

[Hospital Name] is seeking a dynamic and experienced

Consultant in Medical Gastroenterology

to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality care across the spectrum of gastroenterological diseases, contributing to clinical excellence, service development, and education. There may also be opportunities to participate in research and subspecialty development, depending on interests and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:

Provide comprehensive care in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. Participate in endoscopy services including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., OGD, colonoscopy, ERCP if trained). Manage inpatient gastroenterology and hepatology consults and outpatient clinics. Collaborate in the care of patients with IBD, chronic liver disease, GI bleeding, functional GI disorders, and other GI pathologies. Participate in the acute gastroenterology on-call rota as per department policy. Work closely with colleagues in surgery, radiology, pathology, oncology, and nutrition.

Teaching and Training:

Provide supervision and teaching to junior medical staff, including registrars, residents, and interns. Support medical student education through bedside teaching and lectures. Participate in postgraduate education sessions and departmental CME activities.

Service Development and Leadership:

Contribute to the planning and development of gastroenterology services, including pathway improvements and clinical audits. Lead or support subspecialty service areas such as IBD, hepatology, advanced endoscopy, or nutrition, depending on expertise. Participate in departmental governance and quality assurance programs.

Research and Innovation (optional):

Engage in or support clinical research initiatives within gastroenterology. Contribute to publications, guideline development, or clinical trials (as applicable).

Required Qualifications:

Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) and full registration with [Medical Council - e.g., GMC, NMC, MCI]. Completion of recognized specialty training in Gastroenterology (e.g., CCT, DM, DNB, FRCP, or equivalent). Board certification or eligibility in Gastroenterology (if applicable). Proficiency in upper and lower GI endoscopy procedures. At least [X] years of independent clinical experience in gastroenterology post-specialty training.
