The Consultant Interventional Cardiologist is a senior-level physician specializing in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases using catheter-based procedures and minimally invasive techniques. This role involves providing comprehensive cardiac care, performing interventional procedures, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:1. Clinical Care & Interventional Procedures
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations, including:
Coronary angiography
Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI)
Primary angioplasty
Rotablation
IVUS/OCT-guided procedures
Structural heart interventions (TAVI, ASD/VSD/PDA device closures, etc.)
Manage acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, and other cardiac emergencies.
Conduct pre- and post-procedural patient evaluations.
Oversee cardiac ICU and coronary care unit (CCU) rounds as needed.
Provide consultation services to inpatients and outpatients.
2. Patient Management & Follow-Up
Develop individualized treatment plans for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.
Monitor post-procedure recovery and long-term cardiac rehabilitation.
Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, treatments, and lifestyle modifications.
3. Team Collaboration & Supervision
Work closely with cardiac surgeons, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and critical care teams.
Supervise junior doctors, residents, and cardiology fellows during procedures and ward rounds.
Ensure coordination across departments for comprehensive cardiac care delivery.
4. Quality Assurance & Clinical Governance
Ensure adherence to institutional protocols, clinical guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and procedural documentation.
Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
5. Continuing Medical Education & Research (Optional)
Stay updated with the latest developments in interventional cardiology.
Attend and present at national and international cardiology conferences.
Participate in clinical research, trials, or academic activities (especially in academic hospitals).
Qualifications:
Essential:
MBBS and MD/DNB in Internal Medicine.
DM/DNB in Cardiology from a recognized institution.
Valid medical license and registration with appropriate medical council.
Desirable:
Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology (FSCAI, FESC, etc.).
5+ years of independent interventional cardiology experience.
Training in advanced structural or peripheral interventions.
Qualification - MBBS, MS/MD, DNB
