Job Description

Key Responsibilities



To ensure safety standards and standard practice guidelines and protocols are instituted in the care of the patient.

Teaching, training and roster the medical staff so that the ICU is staffed by competent personnel, especially outside routine hours.

Management of patients in high dependency units

Manage and support the medical emergency team, trauma team and the CPR team.

Able to determine artificial airway management

Should be able to carry out invasive procedures outside the ICU (e.g., Central Line, PICC lines, Lumbar puncture, Insertion of feeding tubes etc)

Post discharge from ICU, intensivist must transfer care to primary consultant.

To provide care to the patient in the wards and take patients daily rounds for all patients admitted in the ICU.

Common ICU procedures to be performed

To actively participate and give inputs in the design, maintenance and upgradation of the ICU, including the physical structure and equipment in the ICU.

Should be able to suggest and guide for the choice of equipment, drugs and other consumables like catheters, filters etc.

Should maintain unit statistics and run regular audits and quality assurance and quality improvement programmes for the ICU.

Should be member of the hospital infection control committee, purchase committee and play a role in the formulation of antibiotic policies, transport policies, admission and discharge policies, etc.

To supervised and encourage the staff to attend courses including but not limited to basic and advanced cardiac life support, acute trauma life support and fundamentals of critical care support. They should be made familiar with the management guidelines.

To carry out research in the form of audits, observational studies and randomized clinical trials.

Consultant intensivists should follow standard ethical and regulatory guidelines in the conduct of research.

Advising resident doctors to continue / discontinue earlier prescribed medicine and advise additional treatment, if any.

Monitoring the progress of the patient and advising patient for investigation if required.

Referring patients to other consultants of other specialties within Fortis hospitals, if required.

Follow-up & counseling of patients as and when required.

Strictly adhering to the medical ethics & management rules & regulations.

Ensure optimum utilization of resources by the him/her and subordinates

Ensure that equipment in the department is functioning satisfactorily or will take necessary corrective action to ensure this

Any other tasks assigned by the HOD/ management from time to time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹200,000.00 - ₹400,000.00 per month
