The Anesthetist is responsible for providing safe and effective anesthesia care to patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures. This role involves pre-operative assessment, administration of anesthesia, intra-operative monitoring, and post-operative pain management. The Anesthetist works closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities1. Pre-operative Duties
Conduct thorough patient assessments including medical history, allergies, and previous anesthesia experience.
Evaluate patient readiness for anesthesia and determine the appropriate anesthesia plan.
Educate patients and families about the anesthesia process and address any concerns.
2. Intra-operative Duties
Administer general, regional, or local anesthesia according to the surgical requirements.
Monitor vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and respiration throughout the procedure.
Adjust anesthesia levels as needed to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Respond rapidly to any anesthesia-related complications or emergencies.
3. Post-operative Duties
Oversee patient recovery from anesthesia in the PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit).
Manage post-operative pain and complications.
Document anesthesia procedures, medications, and patient responses clearly and accurately.
4. Clinical Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, safety standards, and legal regulations.
Maintain anesthesia equipment and ensure readiness for procedures.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
Qualifications & Requirements
MBBS with MD/DNB in Anesthesiology or Diploma in Anesthesia (DA).
Valid medical registration with the respective state medical council.
Proven experience in administering anesthesia in a clinical or hospital setting.
Strong knowledge of anesthetic medications, airway management, and emergency response.
Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced clinical environments.
Preferred Skills
Experience in ICU or critical care settings.
Familiarity with advanced life support (BLS/ACLS).
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
