A Computer Technician installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots computer hardware, software, and networks, providing essential technical support to users by diagnosing issues, performing upgrades, managing systems, and ensuring smooth operation, often serving as the first line of support for technical problems. Key duties include setting up new equipment, resolving
software/hardware glitches, managing user accounts, performing security updates, and documenting solutions. Key Responsibilities:
Installation & Setup: Configure new computers, peripherals (printers, scanners), and network devices; set up user accounts and permissions.
Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose and fix hardware (motherboards, components) and software (OS, applications) issues; perform system upgrades and apply patches.
Technical Support: Provide on-site and remote help desk support, troubleshooting user-reported problems and guiding them through solutions.
Network Management: Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and maintain internet access.
Security & Updates: Implement security updates, manage antivirus, and maintain data backups.
Documentation: Record support requests, solutions, and system configurations, and sometimes train users.
Key Skills & Requirements:
Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS) and computer hardware.
Excellent problem-solving,
communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently.
Relevant certifications (like CompTIA A+, Network+) are often preferred.
