Job Description

A Computer Operator monitors and manages computer systems, ensuring smooth operation by executing tasks, troubleshooting issues, performing backups, and maintaining hardware/software as per schedules, often in data centers, handling everything from batch processing to user support and security. Key duties involve running system jobs, resolving errors, applying updates, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with IT teams to optimize performance and ensure data integrity, crucial for uninterrupted workflows. Key Responsibilities:

System Monitoring & Execution:

Monitor system performance, input commands for batch jobs, respond to error messages, and manage work order schedules.

Data Management:

Perform data backup procedures, ensure data security, process phone requests, and generate reports.

Maintenance & Support:

Troubleshoot hardware/software issues, install updates, conduct preventive maintenance, and provide user support.

Documentation:

Maintain incident logs, run procedures, and update manuals.

Collaboration:

Work with systems analysts and programmers on testing and problem resolution.
Typical Work Environment:

Often located in server rooms or data centers. May involve shift work or on-call duties.
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong understanding of computer systems, networks, and operating systems. Problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to follow detailed instructions. Certifications or associate's degrees in IT fields are helpful but not always required.
