Project Brief:
The project aims to empower girls (6 to 14 years) of 14 villages of Barwadi block of Latehar district, Jharkhand by mapping and mitigating their vulnerabilities related to their educational rights, enrolling Out of School girls in formal schools in age appropriate classes and setting up community based learning centres (CLCs) in 14 villages for supporting them with remedial educational support to make them at per their age/grade appropriate academic competency level. It also envisions collectivization of adolescent girls for leading them towards a positive life with the help of life skills education and knowledge on proper nutrition and sexual and reproductive health issues as well as strengthening their participation in taking lifetime decisions by sensitizing them on their rights and entitlements, issues related to gender violence, social evils like- child marriage, trafficking, child labour etc.
This project along with girls also considers the parents, especially mothers and grass-root level service providers - like- PRI members, school teachers, ASHA, Anganwadi workers etc. as key role players in ensuring holistic development of the girls. The project will ensure creating a convergence platform at the CLC level with the participation of parents and other grass-root level service providers with handholding support from CINI for creating a child friendly environment in the CLC as well as in the community. As stated, mothers of the girls will be given special focus by reinforcing their academic knowledge through Mother-literacy programme and by enhancing their knowledge on positive parenting, issues related to gender discrimination, health and nutrition of children and adolescent girls and their basic rights and entitlements.
Ultimately the project will be implemented in collaboration with the district, block and Gram Panchayats and local govt. schools for creating ownership among the service providers, community people and parents for contributing to sustain the CLCs with support of the local youths trained by CINI for ensuring the remedial education support to the girls for retaining in school and completing elementary education with enhanced academic competency and successfully transitioning to class IX (secondary education level).
