Mission and objectives:
The India Country Office is currently implementing its 10th Country Programme (CP-10), which envisions an India where every woman and young person, especially those from vulnerable and marginalized communities, enjoys gender equality, can fully realize their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and actively contributes to sustainable development.
Aligned with the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), and the 2030 Agenda, CP-10 focuses on achieving the three transformative results:

  • Ending preventable maternal deaths
  • Ending the unmet need for family planning
  • Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices
Context:
In this context, the UN Youth University Volunteer Communications Associate will support UNFPA's communications efforts to enhance its visibility, engage wider audiences, and promote the impact of its work through digital storytelling, content creation and strategic social media and influencer engagement.
Task description:
As part of the UNFPA Rajasthan State Office under the direct supervision of the Head of Office and in close coordination with the Communications and Media unit at UNFPA Country Office, UN Youth University Volunteer Communications Associate will be responsible for undertaking the following activities:
? Contribute to the development of communication materials such as leaflets, posters, and digital slides using Canva and or other design software.
? Help prepare basic content calendar, briefs for events, campaigns, and field visits
? Take photos and short videos during events/field visits using a smartphone and/or camera (guidance will be provided)
? Support event coordination, on-ground communications coverage, and documentation
? Draft short stories or testimonials capturing human-interest aspects of the programme
? Assist in organizing and archiving photo/video content and communication files
? Help monitor social media engagement and compile basic analytics
? Provide support for proofreading, formatting, and reviewing content
? Liaise with the Country Office Communications Team to highlight state-specific activities
? Monthly reporting to supervisor (State Head Rajasthan)
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
? Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
? Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
? Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
? Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
? Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
? Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
Requirements:
? Demonstrated interest and/or experience in communication.
Essential:
? Familiarity with Canva for graphic design and video editing and/or other design software
? Comfortable using a smartphone camera/ DSLR to shoot photos and videos
? Interest in visual storytelling, social impact communications, and digital media
? Willingness to learn and apply basic design principles (composition, colour, text hierarchy, etc.)
? Ability to manage multiple tasks, respond to feedback, and meet agreed deadlines
? Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
? Exposure to or interest in AI-based multimedia tools
Desirable:
? Experience contributing to college-level communications, student-led campaigns, or social media pages
? Basic understanding of video editing workflows (e.g., adding subtitles, music, voiceover)
? Proficient in basic sketching and drawing using a stylus for visual communication and concept development.
? Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
