This role is important in optimising the procurement and supply chain activities for specific commodities. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans and sourcing recommendations to enhance cost, quality, and delivery performance.

The Commodity Manager identifies and qualifies new suppliers, maintains strong relationships with existing suppliers, negotiates contracts and develops business cases for technological evaluations.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Engineering, Operations, Production, and Quality, is essential to ensure alignment of supply chain activities with business objectives.

The role involves understanding technical performance, monitoring market trends, conducting cost analysis, and managing supplier performance.

Commodity Manager ensures compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, prepares and presents reports on commodity performance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

This position demands strong negotiation skills, analytical abilities, and a deep understanding of the engineering industry to support the company's commitment to innovation, quality, and excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities:



Strategy Planning and Development

Develop and implement commodity strategies that align with the company's overall objectives and goals by creating and executing plans to optimise cost, quality and delivery performance

Develop deep technological understanding of assigned commodity and make recommendations to the business on appropriate and optimised sourcing including product performance, durability & whole of life cost

Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and suppliers to identify potential opportunities and risks.

Conduct Cost analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings and strategic sourcing including

optimised lead time and delivery strategy as well as spares and service agreements

Lead cost reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects within the commodity area. Formulate preferred vendor list based on technical and commercial needs to meet sales and client requirements

Conduct on-site supplier evaluations/audits including technical & manufacturing capability, tiered supply chain management, corporate sustainability and compliance to company's policies and principles

Supplier Management

Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability criteria ensuring a robust and competitive supply base

Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing and delivery conditions.

Manage and maintain supplier relationships to ensure consistent quality and reliability of supplies.

Complete risk evaluation and develop mitigation strategies to ensure supply chain continuity

Monitor supplier performance to ensure adherence to quality, delivery, and cost targets.

Address and implement corrective actions as needed to address any performance issues.

Ensure all contracts are up-to-date and are compliant with company policies and regulatory requirements

Reporting and Documentation

Develop and maintain commodity-related reports, documentation & profiles.

Prepare and present regular reports on commodity performance and procurement activities.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of supplier contracts, agreements, and performance metrics.

Communication, Consultation & Collaboration

Present business case for supplier recommendation to Leadership, Proposals, Projects and Operations teams to ensure 'buy in' on supplier selections and technologies

Collaborate with Sales, Engineering and Manufacturing teams to understand material needs and specifications.

Assist in the preparation of tender submissions by providing relevant information as required.

Work collaboratively with Estimation and Procurement to achieve effective production plans/schedules.

Support cross-functional teams in new product development and process improvement initiatives.

Continuous Improvement

Contribute to a culture of innovation, by creating and seeking ways to develop innovative solutions which aid business growth.

Participate in continuous improvement activities and programs across the organisation, in particular Lessons Learned and opportunities for improvement to ensure past project learnings are used.

Working with others in the business, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at QHSE, other internal processes, development and implementation of new ideas (processes, products, services), and improvement of company's competitiveness and overall market recognition.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

Encourage and foster a strong QHSE culture in the Team.

Ensure all activities are undertaken in a safe manner by understanding risks and hazards that may be exposed while performing your roles (safety in office, while travelling, at customer sites).

Ensure quality procedures directly related to the role are followed and participate in regular reviews, offering recommendations as required

Participate in the application of company's QHSE Management System and adhere to associated policies /procedures

Requirements:



Minimum of 5 years of experience in commodity management (Fabrication) or experience working for a large multinational manufacturer in technical Sales, Sourcing or Engineering roles.

Strong knowledge of supply chain principles, sourcing strategies, and market analysis.

Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience with contract management and supplier performance evaluation.

Three or more years of purchasing/commodity management experience.

Intermediate skills in sourcing and negotiations.

Utilizes data and info to determine timelines and commitments; executes activities to project plan.

Ability to complete projects and accomplish goals regardless of obstacles.

Successfully engages and gets buy-in from integral stakeholders.

Able to manage competing and changing objectives.

Understands stakeholder objectives and translates to requirements for the supply base.

Able to successfully present ideas, projects, and plans to procurement organizations.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.

Ability to manage rate contracts between $0 and $30M per year in spend

Skills / Abilities



Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary and remote teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, in particular Excel

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse project stakeholders.

Ability to mentor junior planning staff, coordinate with various teams to assist driving project success.

Effective time management and organisational skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Strong customer focus and commitment to meeting customer requirements.
