We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Commis I specializing in Indian Cuisine to join our culinary team at ibis Styles Mysore, India. As a Commis I, you will play a crucial role in supporting our kitchen operations and contributing to the preparation of authentic Indian dishes that delight our guests.
Stock the assigned kitchen station with necessary ingredients and raw materials daily
Prepare mise en place for your assigned station, ensuring all ingredients are ready for service
Master and execute basic cooking methods and techniques specific to Indian cuisine
Follow standard recipe cards to prepare food items, maintaining portion control and minimizing waste
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP) in all aspects of food handling and preparation
Clean and organize your work area, equipment, and utensils throughout your shift
Assist higher-level chefs in more complex food preparation tasks as needed
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely food service
Participate in regular stock takes and implement proper stock rotation practices
Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages to your supervisor promptly
Continuously learn and improve your culinary skills, particularly in Indian cuisine
Qualifications
Minimum of primary school education
At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably in Indian cuisine
Proficiency in spoken English
Solid knowledge of Indian cuisine, including regional variations and cooking techniques
Demonstrated skills in basic food preparation and knife handling
Understanding of food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP)
Ability to read and follow recipes and portion control guidelines
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
