The Commis Chef plays a key role in supporting the kitchen team by assisting with food preparation, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations. This entry-level position is ideal for someone passionate about cooking and eager to learn under the guidance of senior chefs.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items under the supervision of senior chefs.
Ensure all ingredients are prepared, stored, and handled according to food safety and hygiene standards.
Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Head Chef.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and utensils.
Assist in receiving and storing deliveries while checking quality and stock rotation.
Support senior chefs in mise en place and service.
Learn and apply cooking techniques, kitchen procedures, and food presentation styles.
Comply with all health & safety and hygiene regulations.
Work collaboratively with the team to ensure smooth kitchen operations during service.
Requirements
Prior experience in a kitchen (internship/apprenticeship or commis role) preferred, but not mandatory.
Basic knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene standards.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.
Strong willingness to learn and take direction from senior chefs.
Team player with good communication skills.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
