Commis I is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes as per standard recipes. This role supports the Chef De Partie and ensures smooth operations in the assigned kitchen section while maintaining high food quality, hygiene, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook food items following standard recipes and quality guidelines.
Assist the Chef De Partie in daily kitchen operations.
Ensure all mise-en-place is prepared and organized before service.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and workstations.
Monitor food storage and ensure proper labelling and rotation (FIFO).
Ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned and handled safely.
Follow food safety and hygiene standards (FSSAI guidelines).
Control wastage and portion size as per kitchen policies.
Assist in training and guiding junior kitchen staff when required.
Report any maintenance or equipment issues to the supervisor.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Commis I or similar role.
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
Ability to follow recipes and quality control processes.
Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards.
Good communication and team coordination skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Flexibility to work in shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Education & Experience
Diploma or Certificate in Culinary Arts preferred.
2-4 years of experience in a professional kitchen (hotel, restaurant, or QSR).
