The Coil Line Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the complete coil processing line, including straightening, buffing, and cutting operations. The role ensures accurate processing of coils as per production plans and quality standards while maintaining safety, efficiency, and housekeeping on the shop floor.

Roles & Responsibilities
1. Coil Line Operations
Operate coil straightening, buffing, and cutting machines efficiently.
Set and adjust machine parameters based on coil thickness, material grade, and job specifications.
Load and unload coils safely using cranes, hoists, or material-handling equipment.
Ensure smooth material flow across the coil processing line.
2. Quality Assurance
Ensure processed coils meet flatness, surface finish, and cutting dimension requirements.
Perform in-process visual inspections and basic measurements.
Identify and report defects such as bends, surface marks, burrs, or incorrect cuts.
Coordinate with the Quality team for inspection, rework, or rejection handling.
3. Production & Productivity
Achieve shift-wise production targets with minimal downtime.
Reduce scrap, rework, and material wastage.
Maintain proper line balance and support uninterrupted downstream processes.
4. Machine Care & Preventive Maintenance
Carry out routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic machine checks.
Monitor machine performance and report abnormalities or breakdowns promptly.
Support maintenance teams during servicing or repair activities.
5. Safety, Health & Housekeeping
Strictly follow plant safety rules, SOPs, and EHS guidelines.
Use prescribed PPE such as safety shoes, gloves, helmet, and eye protection.
Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards around the coil line and work area.
Follow safe practices for crane operations and material handling.
6. Documentation & Shift Reporting
Maintain job cards, production logs, and shift reports accurately.
Record machine settings, output quantities, downtime, and rejection details.
Ensure proper shift handover and communication with incoming operators.
7. Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with supervisors, helpers, crane operators, and quality inspectors.
Support training of junior operators and helpers when required.
Participate in Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Skills & Competencies
Hands-on experience in coil straightening, buffing, and cutting operations
Understanding of coil processing lines and metal handling
Basic knowledge of drawings, specifications, and quality requirements
Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills
Strong safety awareness and discipline
