To lead and manage the CNC machine shop operations (CNC, VMC, VTL machines) ensuring productivity, quality, and on-time delivery. The role involves supervision of manpower, programming, process planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical:
Oversee daily operations of CNC, VMC, and VTL machines in the shop floor.
Review and approve CNC programs (Fanuc/Siemens or equivalent) and provide guidance on optimization.
Ensure proper setting, tooling, fixture design, and machining process for new and existing components.
Troubleshoot machine/process issues and support operators in resolving production challenges.
Implement best practices in machining for cycle time reduction and productivity improvement.
Quality & Process Control:
Ensure machining processes meet dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and tolerance requirements.
Review first-piece approvals, in-process inspections, and final quality checks.
Drive adherence to ISO/TS quality standards and customer-specific requirements.
Reduce rework, scrap, and machine downtime through preventive measures.
People Management:
Lead, train, and mentor CNC operators, setters, and programmers.
Allocate manpower across machines based on production priorities.
Build team competency in CNC programming, setting, and problem-solving.
Planning & Coordination:
Collaborate with production planning for scheduling and timely execution of jobs.
Coordinate with design, tool room, and maintenance teams for seamless operations.
Monitor machine utilization, OEE, and productivity KPIs.
Maintenance & Safety:
Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of CNC/VMC/VTL machines in coordination with the maintenance team.
Enforce shop floor discipline, 5S, and safety practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production Engineering (or equivalent).
10-15 years of experience
in CNC/VMC/VTL machine shop operations.
Strong hands-on knowledge of
CNC programming (Fanuc/Siemens/Heidenhain or similar), setting, and operation
.
Proven track record of managing a team in a machine shop environment.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam/UG/Esprit or similar) preferred.
Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, jigs & fixtures, and process optimization.
