The CMM Lab Junior Engineer is responsible for operating and programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect and verify precision components and assemblies. This role involves conducting dimensional inspections, analyzing measurement data, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities
CMM Operation & Inspection
Operate and program CMM machines using software like PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
Conduct precision measurements of machined components, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and quality standards.
Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of parts and assemblies.
Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models for accurate measurement analysis.
Maintain proper calibration of CMM machines and related metrology equipment.
Quality Assurance & Reporting
Record and analyze inspection data, identifying deviations from specifications.
Prepare and maintain detailed inspection reports and documentation.
Assist in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for non-conforming parts.
Collaborate with production, design, and quality teams to resolve measurement-related issues.
Follow and enforce ISO 9001, AS9100, or other relevant quality management standards.
Lab Maintenance & Compliance
Ensure CMM lab is clean, organized, and follows safety and 5S principles.
Support calibration and maintenance of measuring instruments, including micrometers, height gauges, and surface roughness testers.
Stay updated on new measurement technologies and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or related field.
1-3 years of experience in CMM operation, metrology, or quality inspection. (Freshers with strong CMM knowledge may also apply.)
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CMM programming and operation (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, or equivalent).
Strong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
Familiarity with measuring instruments like Vernier calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) is a plus.
Soft Skills
Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Work Environment & Schedule
Full-time role with shifts as per company requirements.
Work involves standing for extended periods and handling precision measuring equipment.
