Role Overview

The

Cloud Migration Specialist

is responsible for planning, designing, and executing large-scale migrations of enterprise workloads to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

This role focuses on delivering

secure, scalable, and cost-optimized migration solutions

across applications, data, and infrastructure, leveraging automation and modernization frameworks.



The individual will collaborate closely with solution architects, DevOps, and security teams to ensure smooth migration with minimal business disruption, while also contributing to reusable IPs and frameworks for future migrations.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Migration Planning & Assessment

Conduct

cloud readiness and workload assessments

, including dependency mapping, TCO, and ROI analysis. Define

migration strategies

-- Rehost (Lift & Shift), Replatform, Refactor, or Replace -- based on business and technical drivers. Evaluate

current infrastructure, application landscapes, and integrations

to develop migration blueprints. Recommend and document

landing zone architectures

, networking, IAM, and compliance alignment for target cloud environments.

Migration Design & Execution

Design and implement

end-to-end migration architectures

for infrastructure, applications, and data. Use cloud-native and third-party tools (e.g., AWS Migration Hub, Azure Migrate, CloudEndure, Velostrata, StratoZone) for assessment and execution. Automate migration workflows using

Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation

templates. Lead or support

pilot migrations, cutover planning, and production transitions

ensuring minimal downtime. Coordinate with operations, security, and networking teams to validate environment readiness and compliance.

Modernization & Optimization

Post-migration, lead

modernization initiatives

-- containerization, serverless transitions, or database refactoring. Implement

cloud cost optimization

practices using tagging, rightsizing, and FinOps principles. Define and apply

governance frameworks

for performance, monitoring, and configuration compliance. Support automation of post-migration validation, backups, DR, and performance benchmarking.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Work closely with

application owners, architects, and business units

to align migration goals with business outcomes. Collaborate with

security, compliance, and operations teams

for end-to-end migration governance. Support

pre-sales and solutioning teams

by providing migration inputs for RFPs, proposals, and client presentations. Communicate migration risks, progress, and mitigation plans effectively to stakeholders and leadership.

Knowledge Sharing & Reusability

Develop and maintain

migration playbooks, templates, and reusable assets

. Document lessons learned, best practices, and automation scripts for future projects. Contribute to the

Cloud Migration Center of Excellence (CoE)

with frameworks, assessment tools, and automation accelerators. Mentor teams and enable capability building in

cloud migration tools and methodologies

Core Competencies & Skills

Technical Expertise

Strong experience in

Cloud Migration methodologies

(AWS MAP, Azure CAF, Google CCAI, or similar frameworks). Proficiency in

Cloud Platforms

-- AWS, Azure, and/or GCP. Expertise in one or more migration domains:

Infrastructure & VM migrations

Application & container migrations (Docker, Kubernetes, App Service)

Database & data warehouse migrations (DMS, SCT, BigQuery, Synapse)

Strong knowledge of

networking, IAM, security, and monitoring

in cloud environments. Proficiency in

automation tools

-- Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, ARM templates, etc. Exposure to

CI/CD pipelines, DevOps

, and

SRE

practices for post-migration operations.

Analytical & Business Skills

Strong understanding of

TCO modeling, cost optimization, and capacity planning

. Ability to translate complex technical designs into clear business value propositions. Skilled in

stakeholder engagement

, change management, and risk mitigation. Excellent documentation and communication skills across technical and executive audiences.

Experience

Total Experience:

10-15 years in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering roles. Minimum 4-6 years of

hands-on experience in cloud migration projects

(large enterprise scale). Proven experience in designing or leading

multi-cloud or hybrid migration programs

. Prior experience in

cloud architecture, infrastructure engineering, or platform modernization

preferred.

Preferred Certifications

Cloud Certifications:

AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional Azure Solutions Architect Expert Google Professional Cloud Architect

Migration-Specific Certifications:

AWS Migration Specialist / Azure Migrate Expert / Google Cloud Migrate

Supporting Certifications:

HashiCorp Terraform Associate Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) ITIL or FinOps Practitioner (optional)

Performance Indicators

Successful execution of migration programs within scope, cost, and timeline. Reduction in migration downtime and defect rates. Reusability index of developed migration templates, scripts, and playbooks. Customer satisfaction and adoption of cloud-native services post-migration. Contributions to CoE assets, automation, and team enablement.
