Summary:

The Infrastructure Engineer will design, develop, and support infrastructure and middleware implementation for Engineering IT systems at Wabtec, a leading supplier of technology-based products and services for the rail and transit industries. This position reports into the Senior Manager, IT Engineering and is in the execution arm of the infrastructure strategy for the team. This position will be essential as this organization progresses further into advanced hosted, internally developed, 3rd party, and SaaS based solutions which support Engineering, Services and Manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with the Engineering IT development teams on the analysis and design of cloud-hosted software solutions across a mixed external and internally developed product landscape.
  • Manages cloud infrastructure provisioning, operations, and new initiatives.
  • Identify and drive cloud cost-out initiatives
  • Partners with corporate cloud teams to integrate internal software systems
  • Facilitate support for fault isolation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis activities during system integration and validation testing.
  • Triage reported issues to assess impact, determine workarounds and propose solutions
  • Participate in various reviews on topics such as requirements, design, cyber security.
  • Ensure software is developed and deployed efficiently and securely.
  • Bridge the gap between development and operations
  • Introduce automation and security tools to drive efficiency in operations, speed & security in deployments.
  • Partner with cloud platform, cyber & architecture review board and ensure that applications and tools are aligned with the enterprise standards and strategy.
  • Some travel requirements to interface with other project/product teams, and/or to support project deployments.
Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science or \xe2\x80\x9cSTEM\xe2\x80\x9d (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in AWS and cloud architecture. Deployment of EC2, S3, creating/deploying backups, load balancers (ALB/NLB), IAM (Identity access management), and AWS Cloud Services.
  • Experience with Chef, Terraform, Kubernetes, Scalr, and Datadog, Cloudwatch.
  • Experience with deployment automation tools and security tools.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a software development team.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in SQL and database management.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in change management, defect tracking, software build, and release processes.
  • Strong familiarity with software development project management methodologies like Agile, Waterfall, and their associated tools.
  • A strong understanding of general network design principles including TCP/IP, UDP, WAF, DNS.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience building and maintaining cloud architecture and performing cloud migrations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Java, Angular, Spring, Bootstrap, Lambda, Informatica, and Appworx.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, ability to articulate clearly and concisely.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented and a clear focus on high quality, self-motivated: these qualities are a must.
  • High degree of attention to detail. Deep understanding of principles and best practices in:
Software development - design, develop, and test software applications
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), version control systems (Git), and CICD pipelines (GitLab) for full lifecycle management of AWS infrastructure & guardrails.
System administration - manage and maintain operating systems, networks, and other cloud infrastructure

Automation - automate software delivery and infrastructure deployments

Security - identify and mitigate security risks in software applications

Operations - deliver performance and availability, while optimizing portfolio in a cost-effective manner

  • The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
