About the Position
As a cloud engineer you will join our small engineering team, supporting cloud and DevSecOps solutions in Microsoft Azure. You will provide technical expertise in the engineering of new products as well as improving existing ones using innovative and practical approaches aligned with the governance standards and current methodologies. One day you might be creating, and testing terraform: another managing our Azure Kubernetes Cluster, while the next increasing the observability of one of our products.
In this role, you will also be responsible for collaborating with global teams and external partners during all phases of the product development lifecycle.
Specific job responsibilities include:

• management of our Azure resources e.g. AKS and Azure Databricks.
• managing our Azure Subscriptions (e.g. increasing security, managing alerts).
• collaborating in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment, security and high availability in the cloud.
• working closely with our development teams to understand their needs and code infrastructure deployments in terraform.
• keeping documentation concise, accurate and up to date.
• researching new technologies and prototyping new ideas.
• contributing to a continual improvement in everything we do e.g., increasing automation, better observability, removal of technical debt.
• reviewing work of others e.g. through pull requests.
• driving continuous improvement e.g. cost efficiency, better observability or appropriate introduction of new technology.
• third level on-call support during critical period.
• The role requires significant hands-on experience.

About the team
We are a cloud engineering team supporting the Finance Data and Analytics product area Swiss Re. We are a small international team of cloud and DevSecOps engineers operating the Azure footprint which holds the golden source of financial data for Swiss Re. Our solutions are used to process billions of records and support mission critical processes at Swiss Re. We own and operate the platform on which Swiss Re generates its financial results. Our top priority is to have everything possible automated to a high level, so we can easily operate and maintain the whole platform. We value good engineering practices and enjoy an open exchange among the team. Continuous Integration and deployment are at the heart of what we do. Also, we put a focus on continuously improving ourselves through regular knowledge exchange. You can expect to work with adverse array of platforms in Microsoft Azure including Databricks, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) , Power BI, Azure Spring Apps, SQL DB, PostgreSQL and Azure Data Factory. All our code and deployments are managed in Azure DevOps. Every change to our infrastructure is done through code. We are passionate about technology and eager to learn. We closely collaborate with product management, engineering teams and colleagues around the globe to share knowledge and engineer simple yet effective solutions.
You will have:

• a degree in applied science, engineering, or computer science (or equivalent applied professional experience).
• a minimum 7 years of hands-on experience engineering solutions with Microsoft Azure.
• demonstrable understanding of networking, compute, and security concepts relevant to the public cloud.
• a curious, engineering mindset and the ability to break complex problems into steppingstones.
• experience with at least one RDBMS (preferable Postgres and/or MS SQL)
• good skills writing PowerShell, Python, Bash scripts.
• proficiency with source code management systems, preferably Git.
• multi-year experience writing Terraform is a plus (preferably a Terraform Associate).
• excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Experience in hand-on coding with high level programming languages like Java, C# or C++ is an added advantage.
