ISS STOXX Climate Team is working closely with its clients to help them with risk analysis and is looking for passionate team members to work extensively on ISS STOXX ESG Physical Risks products The successful candidate will be a topic expert in physical climate risks, climate change, climate impacts and natural hazard modelling In this role you will contribute as a key member of our dedicated Physical Risks team, focusing on improving our existing climate risk models, creating new models and developing new products and analysis tools to assess the financial impacts for companies and real assets arising from climate physical hazards such as floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, heat stress and drought Responsibilities: Contribute to the team s data science-driven product development efforts. Support the development of climate risk assessment products. Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. Help maintain and improve existing models. Contribute to regular data updates. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data-gathering techniques. Coordinate with other ESG and climate-risk products and understand the competitor landscape. Support colleagues and clients on ESG product offerings as a topic expert, including day-to-day communications and operations. Help client-facing teams with product use and specialist client questions. Analyze international regulatory requirements, public datasets, scenario data, etc., to identify how to add value and develop new climate-related sustainable finance products. Qualifications: Advanced university degree ideally in atmospheric or physical sciences, meteorology, hydrology, environmental science or equivalent. 3-5 years of experience as a climate scientist, hazard scientist, environmental engineer or similar, with particular expertise in physical climate risks, e.g. in atmospheric sciences, climate change, climate impacts, physics-based climate hazard modelling or natural catastrophe modelling. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities. Previous research experience. Experience developing or maintaining large climate physical hazard models (e.g. river/coastal floods, tropical cyclones, wildfires, heat stress, drought). Experience using and interpreting climate model output and climate model projections (such as from CMIP5 and CMIP6). Robust data science and statistical analysis capabilities. Strong working knowledge of Python (including pandas) is essential. Good working knowledge of UNIX shell. Knowledge of database (especially SQL) would be a plus. Comfortable working with large geospatial and climate data. Ability to work with GIS (Geographical Information Systems) data such as polygonal data and rasters (gridded data). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with teams across different locations and time zones. Able to proactively contribute to problem-solving and work with close attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written command of English Interest in ESG, responsible investment and sustainability is desirable. Previous experience in ESG and/or Sustainable Climate Finance is a plus. Experience publishing climate and/or hazard science papers or posts would be beneficial
