Job Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated
Classical Dance Teacher
to join our school's performing arts team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in classical dance forms (such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, or Kuchipudi) and will inspire students through their teaching and passion for the art form. The Classical Dance Teacher will be responsible for teaching, nurturing, and developing students' dance skills, while fostering an appreciation for cultural and artistic expression.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach Classical Dance:
Plan and deliver engaging classical dance lessons for students of varying ages and skill levels, ensuring a solid foundation in technique, rhythm, posture, and expression.
Develop Curriculum:
Create, implement, and assess dance programs that align with the school's academic objectives, promoting creativity, discipline, and cultural awareness.
Student Progression:
Monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and encouragement. Help students improve technique, body control, expression, and performance skills.
Classroom Management:
Maintain a positive, disciplined classroom environment that fosters a love for the art of classical dance. Ensure safety during dance activities.
Cultural Education:
Teach students about the history, traditions, and cultural significance of classical dance forms. Promote an appreciation for dance as an art and a means of cultural storytelling.
Performance Preparation:
Organize and choreograph performances for school events, annual functions, or competitions, ensuring students are adequately prepared for public performances.
Individual Attention:
Provide additional support for students who may require extra help to master specific skills or techniques.
Collaborate with Faculty:
Work closely with other performing arts faculty to coordinate cross-disciplinary projects and performances, integrating dance with music, drama, and other subjects.
Parental Communication:
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, performances, and any concerns that may arise.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Classical Dance, Fine Arts, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching classical dance in a school setting or dance academy. Experience working with children and young adults is preferred.
Certifications:
Any certifications related to classical dance (with any other recognized dance associations) will be a plus.
Skills:
Strong command over one or more classical dance forms (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Kuchipudi, etc.)
In-depth knowledge of dance history, theory, and cultural significance.
Ability to communicate effectively and engage with students.
Organizational skills for class planning, events, and performances.
Patience, creativity, and passion for teaching.
Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying abilities.
